Hi, I’m Kat

Based in Ōtautahi Christchurch, I’m a self-taught artist, full-time mum of two, and the creative behind The Happy Kind Co.

What started as a love for cute, colourful, retro-inspired accessories has grown into something even more special. A space where I can create meaningful, hand-painted watercolour portraits designed to capture little personalities, sweet moments, and treasured memories.

Each portrait is lovingly hand-drawn and painted over several hours, making every piece truly one-of-a-kind. This has become the heart of my work — creating keepsakes that families can hold onto forever.

Alongside this, I offer a smaller, carefully curated collection of accessories, focusing on our most-loved designs, made to bring a little extra fun and magic to everyday moments.

I’m incredibly lucky to be supported by my family, friends, and talented local makers — including Alisa, who creates our beautiful deluxe bows and scrunchies. Wherever possible, I aim to keep things thoughtful, small-batch, and locally supported.
